I have been a little quiet here on my own website this quarter, but that’s not to say that nothing is happening here at Herbert HQ.
For instance, my Human Resources (HR) and Employee Benefits media work has been ticking along nicely in the first few months of the year, not least because of the very significant potential challenges to the workplace “over here” as a result of a new President “over there” in the United States.
Below are just a few examples of the articles and podcasts I have appeared in, much of it for Occupational Health Assessment Ltd following a very successful January Employment Webinar for that organisation.
The return of Donald Trump to the White House may have ramifications way beyond the US border. One change in particular – the rollback of EDI policies in the US – poses a challenge to British workplaces.
Occupational Health Assessment Ltd surveyed 145 employers on this issue and the findings made headlines across many leading HR publications. A selection of the media coverage sparked by the January press release can be found below:
I also wrote a longer thought-leadership piece on the same topic for my monthly Employer News column.
I was also invited to contribute an Op-ed (opposite the editorial) article for Human Resources Magazine on the possible return of the cost of living crisis in 2025.
This item was written before Trump’s return to the White House, a return that has made further financial concerns that much more likely in the months ahead.
Lord Rose (the former boss of Asda and Marks and Spencer) described home working as “not doing proper work” in a recent edition of BBC's Panorama.
Following these comments I asked HR experts what they thought of return to office mandates alongside some other topical issues.
Just some of the coverage this generated is shown below:
The Benefits Unboxed podcast is now firmly established and even has a new home on Spotify!
Two recent episodes below:
Episode 4: Can HR stop soaring PMI costs draining the benefits budget?
Episode 5: The US rollback of DEI
I’m also speaking next week at the first Benefits Unboxed: Live! event of 2025 alongside some of the great and the good in the HR, Employee Benefits, and Pensions space.
So, plenty happening below the surface, and I will be back here with some presentation and speaker tips in April.
Until then,
Steve
