A quick summary of some of my press and media coverage in the early autumn of 2024, including commentary on pensions, presentation skills, Human Resources (HR), reward and benefits, Public Relations, and (of course) some informed Budget speculation also.

Comment: Are PR wages becoming a problem?  The cost-of-living (and then cost-of-borrowing) crisis has led to higher than usual pay awards across British business, and some politicians are now suggesting that this is a potential problem area for the UK. Comment: Burnout – Should HR be doing more?  Glassdoor have found that employee burnout statistics remain stubbornly high post-pandemic.  The CIPD’s People Management Magazine looks into this important topic, and this article includes commentary from Steve Herbert.  People Management Magazine 

Monthly Column: Learning to Love the Employment Rights Bill Labour’s plan to “Make Work Pay” is likely to represent the biggest improvement in employment rights in a generation, and many employers fear the time and monetary costs of complying with the proposed new rules. Yet regular columnist Steve Herbert thinks that savvy employers should accept - and even embrace – the new proposals.  Employer News 

Comment:  Fines for unhealthy workplaces? A think tank has proposed fines for employers with unhealthy workplaces.  But how practical is this, and does such a requirement overlook personal responsibility?  Steve Herbert, Brand Ambassador for Occupational Health Assessment Ltd, is extensively quoted in this important article for the CIPD’s industry publication.
